Healthier Dessert Recipes
Who doesn’t love dessert! I have always enjoyed dessert and definitely have some of my favorite recipes. Just because we have made our dessert recipes a little healthier we encourage you to review the nutritional information.
Desserts have gotten a bad rap because of the added sugar, refined flours and unhealthy fats.
5 ways to make healthier desserts
There are a lot of ways you can make desserts healthier and not sacrifice much on the flavor.
- Switch out your flour. Try using whole wheat or almost flour instead of using the over processed white flour.
- Use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.
- Use natural sugars instead of refined white sugar (like maple syrup or honey).
- Use Coconut Oil instead of butter.
- Use applesauce instead of oil.
Reduce sugar!
There are so many reasons you should try and limit sugar intake for yourself but also for your kids. Super Healthy Kids has a great breakdown of the effects sugar can have on kids:
- Reduces brain function
- Leads to over-eating
- Contributes to obesity
- Ruins sensitivity to insulin and contributes to Type 2 diabetes
- Promotes inflammation
- Can lead to headaches.
Lastly, my boys have plenty of natural energy and trust me they do not need the added boost from eating sugar. I know some people say that is not a thing, I challenge them to come take care of my boys pre-and post- sugar and then we can discuss!
