Making Muffin Tin Crayons
I remember as a child making muffin tin crayons with my mom. Back then I just thought it was fun activity with a really cool multicolor circle crayon. Now, I know it was a way for my mom to trick us into using the old broken crayons!
If you have kids, you have a ton of broken crayons! And, if they are anything like mien they refuse to use the broken crayons!
So what do you do when you get dozens of broken crayons? It is a complete waste to throw them away!
Make muffin tin crayons! My boys love to use the ‘new’ crayons and have fun helping to make them.
Supplies:
- Muffin Tin
- Broken Crayons
- Tupperware
- Water
- Oil
We start by having the boys collect all of the broken crayons (we like to have a competition to see who can collect the most).
Once you have all of the broken crayons collected we place them in a Tupperware container and cover with water. You can skip this step but it helps to get the paper off, especially if little fingers are helping to peel!
After all of the paper is peeled off, you will put them in the muffin tin. Talk to your kids about the colors and what they think will happen when the crayons melt.
When you put the muffin tin in the oven don’t forget to turn on the oven light, as the kids love to watch this part!
Be sure to let the crayons COMPLETELY COOl! If they are not completely cool it will be really hard to get them out!
