Bacon and Brussel Sprouts

Candied Brussel Sprouts

Bacon and Brussel Sprouts

I credit my older sister for getting me into brussels sprouts long before they were the trendy food item.   My first dish that fostered a love of brussels spouts was cooked in a red wine sauce.  Since then I have become a huge fan, using them in salads and a variety of side dishes.

Brussel Sprouts are super healthy!

According to WebMD they are full of natural glycosinolate glucobrassicin which may help to prevent damage to your DNA that raises your chances of getting cancer!

While this recipe may offset some of the health benefits of brussels sprouts as it is made with bacon and syrup, they are rich in vitamins C, K, Folate, Calcium, Iron and Potassium!

Brussels sprouts are chock full of yumminess that are healthy and a flexible food that absorbs flavors that it cooks with making it very versatile.

About Bacon and Brussel Sprouts

I struggled to come up with a name for these brussels sprouts, words like yummy, delicious, wonderful, delectable, scrumptious, mouthwatering are all accurate.  I could go on but at their core they are like candy (you will want to eat by the handful)!

They are a great side dish for ham and a favorite to prepare on the holidays such as Easter and always a crowd favorite.  It is a simple and quick to make, especially if made with the shaved brussels sprouts.
